তাপ বিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্র কর্মরত শ্রমিকরা জানায়, বিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্রের অভ্যন্তরে কোল ইয়ার্ড (কয়লা রাখার স্থান) এলাকায় নিচে কাজ করতে ছিল ইব্রাহিম। এসময় ক্রেন দিয়ে লোহার এঙ্গেল স্থানান্তির করার সময় একটি এ্যাংগেল ছুটে তার মাথার উপরে পড়ে।
তাৎক্ষনিক শ্রমিকরা তাকে উদ্ধার করে তাপ বিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্রের নিজস্ব এ্যাম্বুলেন্সের মাধ্যমে কলাপাড়া হাসপাতালে নিয়ে আসার পথে তার মৃত্যু হয়।
রানা এন্টার প্রাইজের মালিক ফারুক গাজী বলেন, কাজ করার সময় ইব্রাহিমর মাথায় হেলমেট ছিল। লোহার এঙ্গেল পরে হেলমেট ভেঙে তার মাথায় ঢুকে যায়।
তাপ বিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্রের সহকারি ব্যাবস্থাপক শাহ মনি জিকো বলেন, নির্মান কাজের সময় শুনতে পাই একজন শ্রমিক দূর্ঘটনার শিকার হয়েছে। তাকে উদ্ধার করে হাসপাতালে নিয়ে আসার সময় মারা যায়। তখন সিডনি নিউজ টুয়েন্টিফোর কমকে জানানো হয়। বিসিপিসিএলের পক্ষ থেকে তার পরিবারকে সর্বোচ্চ সহযোগিতা করা হবে।
কলাপাড়া থানার ওসি মনিরুল ইসলাম জানান, নিহতের লাশ উদ্ধার করে ময়না তদন্তের জন্য পটুয়াখালী মর্গে পাঠানো হয়েছে। এঘটনায় কলাপাড়া থানায় একটি অপমৃত্যু মামলা দায়ের হয়েছে।
