ফারহানা গ্রামে চলে যাওয়ার প্রহর গুনছে। তপু বায়না ধরেছে সেও গ্রামে যাবে। বাবা-মাকে তার ইচ্ছার কথা জানিয়েছে। কিন্তু দুজন-ই কিছু বলছেন না। এদিকে শ্যামলি গ্রামে ছুটি কাটানোর কথা বাবা-মাকে বলার সাহস পাচ্ছে না। তাদেরও গ্রামে বেড়ানোর ইচ্ছা আছে। তবুও দুঃখে যেতে ইচ্ছে করছেন না। সেই চিন্তাময় মুহুর্তে ঘরে ফারহানা এসেছে। সে প্রবেশ করে বললো- চাচা আগামীকাল বাড়ী চলে যাবো। তিনি বললেন-ঠিক আছে মা, যাও। তাড়াতাড়ি ফিরে এসো। কিন্তু চাচা! মাগো থামলে কেন? তোমার কোন অসুবিধা। তা নয়, তবে শ্যামলি ও তপুকে সঙ্গে করে নিয়ে যেতে চাইছি।

তপুরা নির্দিষ্ট সময় ব্যয় করে আনন্দ উপভোগ করে ফিরে আসলো। সে ঢাকায় ফিরে তার আম্মুকে জানালো একটা ফুলের বাগান করবে। আর এ বাগানের নাম একজন শহীদ মুক্তিযোদ্ধার নামে নামকরণ করা হবে। তবে এ বাগান অন্য দিয়ে নয়, সে নিজের হাতে করবে। তার আম্মু বলেছেন-বাবা তুমি এখনো ছোট, তুমি কিভাবে বাগান করবে? আরেকটু বড় হও, তখন না হয় করো। তপু রবীঠাকুরের ছুটি গল্পের নায়কের মত বেপরোয়া। সে বাগান করবেই। কি আর করা। তপুর আম্মু বাসার ছোট্ট একটা জায়গা নির্ধারণ করে দিলেন বাগান করার জন্য। তারপর তপু তার আব্বুসহ বুবুদের সহযোগিতায় ছোট্ট জায়গাটিকে গাছ রোপণের উপযোগি করলো। এরপর বিভিন্ন জাতের পাঁচটি ফুলের চারা লাগালো ও সে আব্বুর সহযোগিতায় আরো গাছ লাগালো। সেই থেকে প্রতিদিন সকালে ও বিকালে তপু বাগানে পানি দেয় এবং সপ্তাহে একবার গাছের আগাছা পরিষ্কার করে। কয়েক মাস পর দেখা গেলো প্রায় প্রতিটি গাছে দু-তিনটা করে ফুল ফুটেছে। তপু এখন মহাখুশি।
